HOT SPRINGS PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL
Presented by the Hot Springs Arts and Film Institute (non profit). The Historic Central Theater is playing host this year to Hot Springs’ first ever photography festival. During the months of May and June stop in and meet the photographers, purchase signed prints or just browse some amazing photographs at the 1st Annual HOT SPRINGS PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL. (Gallery open from 6:00 – 8:00 Monday-Thursday). There will be an exciting line up of workshop opportunities (see below for times and dates) for all age groups and photographers of all ability levels. Internationally known photographers will be on hand to teach hands-on, intensive workshops.
May 3 - 5th D-Guy Maynard's Steampunk Boudoir/Glamour Workshop ($399) includes nude bodyscaping on Sunday it’s a three day, intensive and stylized, hands-on photographic learning and portfolio building experience, David Guy Maynard will present a classroom style seminar including lighting techniques, color management, lens/gear choice and usage, composition, and much more. This workshop will utilize the theater and a custom set as background scenes for two models with Steampunk and Boudoir/Glamour themes.
Saturday, May 11, 9-10:30: Children’s Photography Classes, Free. Ages 4-6. Understanding Subject Matter: portraits, landscape, and still life. Children will be provided a camera and instant film to produce an instant portrait. One parent must accompany the child. Class size limited to 12.
Saturday, May 11, 11-12:30: Children’s Photography Classes, Free. Ages 7-12,. Understanding the camera – basics of photography. Children will be provided a camera and film to produce a number of photos. One parent must accompany the child. Class size limited to 12.
Saturday, May 11, 2-5: Children’s Open Shoot, $25 – Join us in your costume or your Sunday best. This is an open modeling shoot for children ages 4 and up. Backdrops for photographs will be provided. Each participant will be provided three digital images from the photographers in attendance. No experience necessary. Assistance provided for younger photographers. One parent/guardian must accompany each child. Limited to 15 children and (7) photographers. Photographers must bring their own digital cameras. Photographers must be at least 12 years of age to photograph.
Sunday , May 12, 9-12 – Jay Hiatt, Introduction to Photography 1: Understanding the Camera. In this class you will learn Aperture, ISO, Sutter Speed and the relationship they have with one another in order to create a well-exposed shot. You will also learn what different size lenses do and why. All these factors will help broaden your creative mind in capturing light. -- $50 adults. Children ages 13-17 get in free (One parent/guardian must accompany each child).
Sunday , May 12,, 1-5:00 – Jay Hiatt, Introduction to Photography 2: Understanding the Camera. This class will have you apply all the fundamentals you learned in the first class. We will see how different Apertures control the depth-of-field along with how the ISO equivocates to sensitivity and how Shutter Speed controls time. If one of those three factors change one of the others has to in order to give you an optimum exposure. Outdoor street photography will bring together everything we have learned in this introduction to basic photography. -- $50 adults. Children ages 13-17 get in free (One parent/guardian must accompany each child)
Friday night, May 24, 7:00 – Steve Anchell Artist Talk FREE and Book Signing –
From 1977 to 1984 Steve operated a commercial photography studio on Sunset Boulevard. His clients included Max Factor, Vivian Woodard, and Merle Norman cosmetics; IBM; Teledyne/Inet; Wham-O Toys; Ohrbach’s Department Store; and more. He has conducted workshops since 1979, including workshops for the International Center of Photography in NYC, Santa Fe Workshops, Toscana Photographic Workshops (Italy), the Universities of California at Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Irvine, the University of Cincinnati, and the University of Denver. Steve conducts film and digital media workshops. Since 2001 he has led workshops to Cuba, twice-yearly.
Saturday, May 25 – Monday, May 27 – Steve Anchell Getting the Most out of Your Mirrorless Camera -- $175. The emphasis on this three-day workshop will be on improving your skills using unique features of MILC and DSLR cameras. Study with the author of the The Darkroom Cookbook, The Film Developing Cookbook, The Variable Contrast Printing Manual, and Digital Photo Assignments. Participants will work from the model in the studio and on the street and will have individual critiques with the instructor as well as help post-processing images.

Sunday, June 2 Rock Star Open Shoot, 2-5, $25 per person Styled open shoot. Come dressed as a rock star – we’ll have a rock show for you to “perform” at. All ages welcome, male and female. You do not have to be a model to come. Each model will receive digital images from the photographers on hand. Limited to 25 models and 12 photographers. Saturday, June 8 2-5 PM – Dark Beauty Circus Open Shoot $25 each. Join us for our first ever styled open shoot. Come dressed as a beautiful clown or the belle of the ball – we’ll have the creepy circus set up for you to play in. All ages welcome, male and female. You do not have to be a model to come. Each model will receive digital images from the photographers on hand. Limited to 25 models and 12 photographers.
